SMS (Short Message Service) refers to short text messages. Messages must be no longer than 160 characters and contain no images or graphics.
MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) is also referred to as picture messaging. Messages consist of images, audio, and video clips in addition to longer text messages.
Digital wireless telephones may cause interference with some hearing aids due to electromagnetic energy emitted by the telephone’s antenna, backlight, or other components. It is because of this potential for interference that the FCC has adopted specific hearing aid compatibility rules for digital wireless telephones.
There are two sets of standards for digital wireless telephones: an “M” rating means the telephone is intended for use with hearing aids in microphone mode. The higher the “M” rating, from 1 to 4, the more likely it is the device will be compatible with your hearing aid on the microphone setting.
The “T” rating, also from 1 to 4, refers to the telephones telecoil coupling ability and means the device is intended for use with hearing aids in telecoil mode. As with the “M” rating, the higher the “T” rating number, the more likely you will be able to use the phone with your hearing aid on the telecoil setting.
Because hearing loss and hearing aids differ by customer, ACT Mobile encourages those who use hearing aids to try hearing aid compatible phones to determine which will work best for them. Test phones are available for testing at any of our business office locations.
